Creating a collage is all about balancing the scale and proportions with color, texture and pattern, working with the interplay of various objects, their contextual weight and significance, at times creating a soothing blend, at other times purposefully building tension by coupling and juxtaposing seemingly incompatible pairings and creating a whole new meaning in the process. Unlike design, which is part science, part art and demands that certain rules be followed to assure function, a collage needn’t follow rules. It isn’t created. It happens.
