Olga Adler is an artist based in Delray Beach, Florida.
Artist Statement: It typically starts as one thing and ends up as another
Technique and Method: Collage, Mixed Media and Photography
In her visual storytelling mixed media artist Olga Adler deploys re-used materials such as scraps of paper, old books as well as textiles, old jewelry and found objects. She works with the interplay of various elements, their contextual weight and significance, at times creating a soothing blend, at other times purposefully building tension by coupling and juxtaposing seemingly incompatible pairings and creating a whole new meaning in the process.
Adler’s process-based work often combines images with copy that can be absurd and most often funny - plays on words and visuals that underline our current ways and unpredictability of life in both pop-cultural and socio-economical contexts.
“The use of copy in my artwork is a natural extension of my passion for written word. I record snippets of my own thoughts but most importantly those of brilliant contemporary writers engaging in social commentary, fiction and scripted television writing. Sometimes a totally random line is the beginning of a new piece. As the images and words flood my mind, my job is to edit - taking the excess out and monitoring the negative space.”
